In addition to our Medical Emergency courses, the Save-A-Life Training Center offers courses leading to certification in basic and advanced open water scuba diving.

Our courses are taught by YMCA Certified instructors and are sanctioned by the YMCA Scuba Program. The Y was the first in 1959 to offer certification for scuba divers.

Courses consist of both classroom and pool instruction and require a total of 24 to 32 hours. Times and dates are flexible and we can teach private, semi-private, or small groups. Day, evening and weekend schedules are available.

The cost of the course is $175 and includes classroom and pool instruction and all equipment needed for pool work. Textbooks, dive tables and logbooks are additional.

Four checkout dives are required following the course and they can be done locally or in the Caribbean, in conjunction with one of our regular trips.  Once the checkout dives are successfully completed, a lifelong certification is issued that is recognized around the world.

Scuba Divers should also consider the following advanced courses:

Oxygen First Aid for Scuba Diving Injuries

This 4 hour program certifies anyone, diver or non-diver, to administer oxygen in the event of a diving related injury

Scuba Lifesaving and Accident Management (SLAM)

Taught over 2 days, this course includes theory and in-water practice of various surface and underwater rescue techniques.

Basic Nitrox

Not really a medical emergency course, but it has been proven that using Nitrox, or oxygen enriched air,  instead of air for diving can help reduce the chances of  a decompression illness emergency.
